Created by Matthew Bourne for his company, Cinderella premiered nearly thirty years ago and holds a unique place in British dance theatre history. It remains the only ballet to have premiered directly in the West End, and over time has become one of the company’s most loved works. The story reshapes the traditional fairytale into a wartime romance, where love is found during moments of fear, loss, and uncertainty.

The production features music by Sergei Prokofiev, performed with immersive sound design that places the audience inside the world of the story. Its visual impact is central to its success, with Olivier Award winning designs by Lez Brotherston, lighting by Neil Austin, and video and projection by Duncan McLean. Together, these elements create a vivid portrait of 1940s London, from air raid shelters to elegant dance halls.
